Lester R. Brown, ‘Ecopsychology and the Environmental Revolution’, p. xv,

Taken from Ecopsychology: Restoring the earth, healing the mind, edited by Theodore Roszak, Mary E. Gomes and Allen D. Kanner. Published by Sierra Club Books, San Francisco, 1995.The idea of providing a quote of the week may seem an out-moded practice today when lists of appropriate environmental quotes are freely available on the Internet. However, rather than scanning quickly through many quotes we believe there is a place for a more sustained contemplation of a writer’s ideas. Our weekly quotes, therefore, will feature a specific text each month in the hopes that readers with be stimulated to explore these writers in greater depth. The quote will be more than a quick ‘sound-byte’ and aim to promote thought. The texts will alternate between an early work (generally published in the 1990s or 2000s) and a more recent work. The aim being to provide readers with somewhat earlier ecological writing that can be compared with current writing that, in general, may deal in greater detail with issues raised more broadly in earlier writing.
